Travis County DA Race

Technically, this blog is dedicated to the conservatives in Travis County. But, considering the number of Republicans who became Democrats on March 4, I do want to comment on the Travis County District Attorney's race.

After nearly three decades in office, Ronnie Earle has retired as Travis County District Attorney. This is one of the most important offices in Travis County as the Public Integrity Unit is within the DA's office. The Public Integrity Unit is responsible for bringing charges against and prosecuting state elected officials in Texas, including the Texas Legislature, the statewide elected officials, and Congressmen. The Public Intergrity Unit has a lot of clout.

In the Democrat Primary, the two top vote-getters of the field of four were Rosemary Lehmberg, with 35.5%, and Mindy Montford, with 31.1%. These two will face each other in the runoff on April 8.

Rosemary Lehmberg has been endorsed by Ronnie Earle as his hand picked replacement. She led the Public Integrity Unit for a time in Travis County and has been an assistant DA in Travis County for many years. She will continue on the policies of Ronnie Earle...policies that most Republicans are not fond of.

Mindy Montford has also worked as an assistant DA in Travis County, though not as long as Lehmberg. She has the leadership skills and personal integrity to run an efficient and fair DA office.

For those Republicans that "crossed-over" to become Democrats this year, I ask you to vote in the runoff for Mindy Montford for Travis County DA. The Republicans do not have a candidate in the general election this year, so the winner of the Democrat Primary will be the new Travis County District Attorney. Put your new voting power as a Democrat to good use, and vote in the runoff for Mindy Montford.

Do you know what other races are going into the runoff besides the Travis County DA race?
