Statesman Blurs Immigrant vs Illegal Distinction
Statesman reports on "Immigration rights marches losing steam?".
Is this about legal immigrants and advocating for them? No! So why the dishonest headline? This is a story about getting the illegal aliens and their friends to march so they can get 'legalized'. When it happened in 2006, it backfired, as voting-entitled-Americans aka Citizens realized how dangerous the illegal immigration trend was, and they were not happy about surrendering to it. This is a sob story about how 'immigration rights advocates' see less enthusiasm by "unauthorized immigrants" (illegal aliens) because, horror of horrors, they might get picked up by ICE and deported.
It is very dishonest to call this "immigrants rights". These are not legal immigrants, and legal immigrants have zero to fear from enforcing the law and sending illegal aliens back to their home country. Consider this nonsensical statement in the article: ".. now every immigrant is threatened by being not only detained and deported but being put into jail, and that is pretty harsh."
Immigrant? My family includes (legal) immigrants; I work with immigrants; immigrants are friends of mine. And no, immigrants are not only are they not threatened by it, they welcome the USA enforcing the law as it should.

These groups are *ADVOCATES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS* not "immigrants rights organizations".

Just because something is illegal does not mean it is immoral.
Millions of people want to come to the U.S. to work legally. However, congress has arbitrarily placed an incredibly low visa supply that is nowhere near matching the demand. The fault lies with Congress, not with people who want to better their lives through hard work.
america allows the most legal immigration in the world. OVER 1 million allowed in each year.
the next country in the list is germany with about 600,000.
I think that is more than enough already. and current events seem to confirm this. assimilation is not happening fast enough.

A traveler is considered a "visa overstay" once he or she remains in the
United States after the time of admission has expired. The time of admission
varies greatly from traveler to traveler depending on what visa class into
which they were admitted. Visa overstays tend to be somewhat more educated
and better off financially than those who crossed the border illegally.[53]
To help track visa overstayer the US-VISIT (United States Visitor and

Each year, an estimated 200,000 to 400,000 illegal immigrants try to make

without a grid of dedicated roads or sidewalks. They move where they want in
four-wheel-drive cars, ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles and their own feet."[61]
My parents were legal immigrants. My wife is a legal immigrant and now a proud citizen of the USA.
We are incensed at the organizations with law-breaking people paradimg with Mexican flags demanding rights for intruders.
For understandable but despicable reasons, Democrats and the press support them.

We allow over 1 million immigrants / year. It would be enough for employers, except we have too much 'chain migration' of families and dependents and not enough employment-based migration.
The fault lies with people in Congress like Barack Obama and Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy, who want a screwed up immigration system that lets in more dependents than workers and limits Europeans and the high-skilled compared with 3rd world low skilled family members.

German's population is 80 Million, US population is almost 260 million. We have more than 3 times their population but we let in less than double the amount of immigrants. So per capita Germany lets in more immigrants than the US does and it is the richest nation in Europe.

Before The Hart-Celler Act of 1965 (Thank you Senator Kennedy)and the 1986 Amnesty Act ( Thank you Senator Kennedy) most Americans wanted population control in the US.Now we allow in around 2,000,000 legal immigrants a year plus their extended families,(Mother,Father,Sister ,Brother and their children.)That adds millions more.Then you have the 12-20 million illegal Aliens that Congress wants to give Amnesty to.If that's granted,then you have their extended families,which will add millions more.Then you have the 500,000 that still cross our southern border illegally each year.The US current population is 301,000,000,not to long ago we exported our surplus food,now we import half,In the near future 36 states will have a water shortage,Some studies show the US population at 450,000,000 by the year 2050.Has anyone ask their Congressman and Senators what quality of life our Children and Grand Children will have? Social Security,in 1996 the Social Security Administration signed an agreement with Mexico that will give Social Security payments to some of the 12-20 million illegal aliens once they are granted amnesty, total cost over 50 billion dollars a year.Add the 45 billion dollars each year that the American tax payer donates for illegal aliens free medical care,food stamps,WIC,rent assistance,free school lunches,and translators at schools for their children and we have a ticking time bomb.Amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens and endless immigration is not the answer.I encourage everyone to write their Congressman and Senators and ask them what the total cost to the American tax payer will be if they grant amnesty to those 12-20 million illegal aliens,after all you and I and our children will foot the bill for their decision

There is not a finite supply of jobs and money in the US. The more people you add the more jobs are created and the more income is generated. That is not only basic economics but sheer common sense. Yes, millions of immigrants cost billions of dollars. Guess what? They also generate billions of dollars through their work. Crazy stuff right?
You want to talk about demographics? European countries are seeing their populations shrink despite letting in large numbers of immigrants. If it weren't for our immigrants in the US our population would not be growing and would be close to shrinking. If you want to be a paranoid right winger why don't you think of the consequences of a shrinking American population while the populations of China, India and most of the Middle East increase rapidly. Better go dig a deeper hole for your bomb shelter buddy.

Each month the Census Bureau conducts the Current Population Survey (CPS), the primary purpose of which is to collect employment data. The March CPS includes an extra-large sample of Hispanics and is considered the best source for information on persons born outside of the United States — referred to as foreign-born by the Census Bureau, though for the purposes of this report, foreign-born and immigrant are used synonymously.1 Analysis of the March 2000 CPS done by the Center for Immigration Studies indicates that 28.4 million immigrants now live in the United States, the largest number ever recorded in the nation’s history, and a 43 percent increase since 1990. As a percentage of the population, immigrants now account for more than one in 10 residents (10.4 percent), the highest percentage in 70 years.
Other findings in the new Center report:
* More than 1.2 million legal and illegal immigrants combined now settle in the United States each year.
* The number of immigrants living in the United States has more than tripled since 1970, from 9.6 million to 28.4 million. As a percentage of the U.S. population, immigrants have more than doubled, from 4.7 percent in 1970 to 10.4 percent in 2000.
* By historical standards, the number of immigrants living in the United States is unprecedented. Even at the peak of the great wave of early 20th century immigration, the number of immigrants living in the United States was less than half what it is today (13.5 million in 1910).
* Immigration has become the determinate factor in population growth. The 11.2 million immigrants who indicated they arrived between 1990 and 2000 plus the 6.4 million children born to immigrants in the United States during the 1990s are equal to almost 70 percent of U.S. population growth over the last 10 years.
* The percentage of immigrants without a high school diploma is 30 percent, more than three times the rate for natives. Because all children born in the United States to immigrants are by definition natives, the sole reason for the dramatic increase in the immigrant population is new immigration. While some immigrants die and others return home, the issuance of 700,000 to 900,000 permanent residency visas annually and the settlement of several hundred thousand illegal aliens each year greatly exceeds deaths and out-migration. In the March 2000 CPS, just under three million immigrants indicated they had entered the country between 1998 and March of 2000. This is exactly what I am saying is garbage! They are blurring the line between real legal immigrants and illegal aliens! Then, when they find out how (legal) immigrants are an asset to the country they use the skewed/phony data to 'support' the false claim that illegal aliens are likewise beneficial.
Wrong! Get yourself a separate study on illegal aliens - criminality, use of public resources, taxes paid, social costs etc. and you'd find a different picture than Rosie Scenario. legal immigrants have higher wages and pay much more in taxes than illegal aliens, who often are simply outside the legally-taxed economy.
Take this one:

I can guarantee you that legal immigrants have much higher insurance levels than illegal aliens. So when the Democrats tell you about the "40 million American uninsured" ask back how many are immigrants and how many are illegal aliens.
Many of our problems, from health care crisis to education issues, relate to the 12 million plus illegal aliens in our midst.
