Chait begins: "You can find many such stories if you troll through the netroots, the online community of liberal bloggers that has quickly become a formidable constituency in Democratic politics. But the episode that seems to come up most often is the Florida recount."

Such a statement in my mind bespeaks the shallowness of the left today.For the rest of America, the central and pivotal event of the era is the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 that killed nearly 3,000 Americans in a single morning. For them, the searing event was a close election that they happened to lose. They are beholden by Bush hatred, a view that perhaps in the past year has been tactically useful for liberal Democrats, but has no core philosophic grounding.
